Family Learning

The Family Learning service provides a wide selection of courses, workshops and family fun days for mums, dads, grandparents, carers and their children.

Parents are able to learn or improve their English, Maths, ICT, Employability and Parenting skills and have the opportunity to take a City & Guild National Qualification in English or Maths. The service also supports parents by guiding them through their child’s education and helping their children to do even better at school.

Parents and children attending a Family Learning course or workshop benefit from:

  • Support for the child’s education
  • Increased confidence in communication, vocabulary and comprehension
  • Local community or school based courses
  • Working together with the school and community members

Adult attendees can continue onto another course within the Family Learning or Newham Adult Learning services or take up volunteering or employment.You can join a Family Learning course at one of the many sites across the borough including schools, nurseries and children’s centres during weekdays and at Newham Adult Learning Centres on Saturdays. There are also activities during half term and summer holidays in libraries and in Newham Adult Learning Centres.
